I'm not very good at Terra Mystica - nowhere near tourney level - so I can only speak as a casual player who really enjoys Terra Mystica. I didn't even mention the game-to-game-variability of end game scoring goals, or round-to-round scoring goals. Use the ore and credits to get more (and more powerful!) buildings up, and use the knowledge to research your way up the six knowledge tracks, which are worth points, and give you improved abilities. So expand throughout the galaxy with your buildings, expanding your ore, credits, and knowledge, and you only have six rounds to do it in. They are all expensive to build, and, except for mines, anything you build replaces something else you had. Mines give ore trading stations give credits the science buildings give knowledge the Planetary Institute gives you a power boost and a unique factional ability. That is, at heart, the appeal of these games to gamers - tough decisions as you try and map out a strategy that basically requires you to sacrifice things you need to get other things you need. But now you have some money, and less ore. But you will need need cash ("credits" in this game), so you'd better replace some of those mines with trading stations. In order to get the ore you need to settle planets (settle, not conquer - this is a euro!), you need to build mines. Good news though: with enough ore, you can terraform nearly anything to be habitable by your people. Some need a bit of terraforming, others need a lot of terraforming. The other colours are not so easy to build on. One of those colours belongs to you, and is easy to build on. I have never played Terra Mystica before, so tell me about Gaia Project without making TM references. You like savoury euro gaming? This game has systems for days! You like sweet, gooey Ameritrashy plastic, with phat factional asymmetry? Well.um.I have plastic and asymmetry, but your mileage may vary. Which brings me to today's game for discussion: Gaia Project. Place. Why wouldn't you eat something like that? It's amazing!
